Advantages: Very descriptive text

Disadvantages: Not very long but too difficult for a young child to read alone

Unusually for a toddler book this one is not illustrated in the traditional sense of the word, instead its painted in huge swirls, sweeps and swooshes of riotous colour. Theres very little detail in the pictures themselves but the textures of the paints leap off the page adding an extra special dimension to the tale. The artist clearly had lots and lots of fun and you'll have just as much fun reading it. Watch out for the cleverly hidden items which blend into the paint a little bit like a Magic Eye illustration. You might not notice them on your first or even second reading but suddenly you'll spot them and wonder how you missed them the first time.

Dog is a happy energetic spotty dog with a very very busy day. Dog's Day follows his adventures with his many friends as he mimics their various skills which include colour changing like a chameleon. The author has been brave enough to use a variety of animals in their natural habitats which the average toddler won't yet have been introduced to which leads to lots and lots and lots of questions and is perfect for children with inquisitive minds.

If you liked this you'll love Cat's Colours by the same author.

Summary: Perfect for inquisitive minds
