Rating:

Dogger by Shirley Hughes After another recent trip to the library I found this book that look ever so familiar to me. I didn't think to much about it at the time but when I got home and began to read it to Jack I realised that this was one of the many books that I had read or indeed owned when I was a lot younger. The Bodley Head Children's Books first published the book way back in 1977. The RRP on the back of the book is £7.99pence but this copy is a hardback one. I am glad I have borrowed it from the library because I do think that this price is a little steep for a children's book. The illustrations in the book look like water ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Dogger - Shirley Hughes: We can learn some valuable lessons from this book. (657 words)

Ever since I met my husband he has rambled on about this book. I had heard of it but never actually read it myself so when I saw it amongst the books down our library I just had to bring it home for him and Noah of course. He nearly wet himself when Noah asked him to read it and I have since had the opportunity to become accustomed to this classic story. This book was first written in 1977 by the famous Shirley Hughes. You know that a book is going to pretty good when 30 years down the line it is still being enjoyed by small children everywhere (and my hubby!). The story tells of a young boy called Dave who absolutely loves his scruffy teddy, ...  Read the complete review

Rating:

Written by Shirley Hughes in the late 1970's, Dogger is a fabulous children's book promoting the theme of kindness - particularly to your brothers and sisters. The story follows a little boy called Dave and his favourite, cuddly toy Dogger who he takes everywhere! The book shows Dave playing with his toy dog and his mum washing it and hanging it on the washing line when it gets too dirty, it is clearly evident from the illustrations as to how much Dave loves Dogger! One day, after collecting his older sister Bella from school, Dave realizes that he has lost Dogger. The whole family look for Dogger but he cannot be found leaving Dave going to bed very sad and ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Dogger - Shirley Hughes: He was wearing a ticket saying '5p' (481 words)
by - written on 19/08/08 (Very useful, 76 readings)
Rating:

Dogger is a lovely children's book written by Shirley Hughes and first published in 1977. I remember having it read to me by my parents when I was young, and I now read it to my 4 year old son at bedtime every now and then. Dogger is the story of Dave and his favourite cuddly toy, the small 'Dogger' (a dog!). The story begins nicely by introducing Dave and his family and saying how important Dogger is to Dave. Then they go to the carnival and Dave realises he has lost Dogger. Everyone searches for Dogger at home but he is nowhere to be found. The next day they go to the fair. Dave wanders around miserably until he spots Dogger being sold for 5p at a stall. He ...  Read the complete review
