... the word is written in bog bold writing. It also rhymes so it makes it really easy to read as the words flow off the tongue. The pictures are fairly bright and are drawn in a sketchy way which I'm not that keen on. I think it would have worked better if the lines were bold and definite and the colours were really vivid and definite. The great thing about this book is the fact that it encourages the reader and the listener to get up and move around a bit. Each page describes how that particular animal dances so it's ver...more

This book is written by Jan Omerod and illustrated by Lindsey Gardiner. The story is about different animals taking part in the animal bop and depending on what animal they are will depend on how they will dance. The text in this book is few and far between having around two small sentences on a tow page spread. The words wiggle all over the place and depict how you should say that particular word so if you should say it loudly then the word is written in bog bold writing. It also rhymes so it makes it really easy to read as the words flow off the tongue. The pictures are fairly bright and are drawn in a sketchy way which I'm not that keen on. Premium Review Animals dancing - winner! (265 words)

This lovely children's book is all about a group of animals doing a range of different dances. It starts off in the dark, and slowly (page by page) a different animal does a specific dance. This is a simple yet enjoyable book that builds on children's love of animals to make a fun and exciting story. It rhymes, so it has a real musical element to it as you read it. With the topic being dancing, you can't help but sing it along, and develop your own different song tune to it. The pics are nice and done in what looks to be pastels. Each pic is a whole double page, and every one has a different coloured background which makes them very appealing ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Doing the Animal Bop - J. Ormerod: Why don't you do the animal thing? (573 words)
by - written on 12/07/08 (Very useful, 254 readings)
Rating:

Picture books often have a simple story line with a strong rhythm and plenty rhyming words: Doing the Animal Bop by J. Ormerod and Lindsey Gardiner begins 'If you like to dance and you sometimes sing, Why don't you do the animal thing?' It is hard for children to resist the urge when this is read aloud to get up and try to move in the same way as each animal that appears in these pages, jiggling and jiving, waddling like a duck or stomping like a rhino. This is not really a story at all, more of a poem that introduces a series of animals, one on each double page, concentrating on the way they move and the sounds they make. As well as rhyme, there is ...  Read the complete review
