My first experience of David Eddings was the Belgariad series which I found to be a book where you really get to know the characters. Unfortunately I haven't found the two books of this series I have read quite so enthralling. The depths of the chracters seem to be really unexplored and I could best describe the book as superficial. The first problem I encountered with this book is that it doesn't say on it anywhere that the Tamuli series follows on from the Elenium series, in the same way that the Mallorean follows the Belgariad.
