I first became aware of this bizarrely named book in my early days as a substitute teacher, when in one particular class, where I was the frequent sub, the children always requested this book at story time. The children used to giggle and giggle, and knew the book off by heart, and nothing seemd to dampen their enthusiam for it. When I then got my own class of children, I knew that I wanted to get a copy of this, that I could keep in my classroom, and lo and behold, on a regular trip to my local charity shop to eye out second hand books, I came across 'Don't Put You Finger in the Jelly, Nelly!', in good condition for a mere 40p (and this was the hardback ... If you like children's books that are high on humour, interaction, rhyming and fun then this could be a book for you. Nick Sharratt's "Don't put the Finger in the Jelly Nelly!" is a graphical romp through some fantastic food and fantastical creatures, and is highly enjoyable to read. Judging from my children's reaction it is a good book to be read to as well! Nick Sharratt is a trained graphic artist, and this book is high on illustrative appeal with a range of line drawing, use of photos and die cut to make for an attractive and memorable reading experience.
