You could say this book is a simple description of mescalin and its effects. You could say this book is just the ramblings of a great writer, after dabbling in the effects of powerful hallucigenic drugs. But you can't say, this book is not worth reading. And you definitely cannot say, that this book has no great significance. Known for his experimentations with powerful drugs, Aldous Huxley lived once again up to his reputation, but with much more detail and exposure. What do you get if you take one of the century's most imaginative science fiction writers, give him a dose of powerful hallucinogenic drug and get him to record the results? The Doors of Perception, that's what. The title is from Jim Morrison's favourite William Blake quote: "If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is, infinite". Huxley uses this concept to express his theory of how drugs act upon the mind.
