At first, Atkins may seem like a total con artist. He isn't. He is just pointing out a few home truths. But please don't think that I've bought into the mystical web of lies. (Having said that, I'm about to tangle you up with me, I hope!) We all know that when humans came to be however many years ago (I'm afraid I can't remember details I was taught more than five years ago!), we didn't have things like sugar, flour, pasta and other foods that raise the blood sugar level and, in turn, the insulin levels. We were lean and fit - we were predators, carnivores: we lived off protein. Alas, no more. I am currently in ... Read the complete review

It's wrong to call the Atkins program a diet, I believe it is an amazing piece of science that proves that we have been brainwashed by food companies for years. This is not some mad eating fad involving grapefruit, bananas, cabbage soup, or any other strict regime. However there are some people that it is not suitable for, diabetics, people on certain medications, check with your doctor (but be warned the normal GP will have no idea what you are planning and if you are on medication they will be reluctant to give this or any plan their whole support) You can eat practically what you like, as much as you like, whenever you like and it really ... and what about Roast Lamb for dinner and cream instead of milk with your tea and coffee? Well that's exactly what you can have on this diet. You can have as much meat, fish, eggs, shellfish, fowl and cheese as you like, providing that it isn't processed. PART ONE - One week into the diet. You may be saying that this doesn't sound like a proper diet and yes you'd be right this is a low Carbohydrate diet in which things like bread, pasta, potatoes and other starchy vegetables along with sugary foods and anything that has carbohydrates in it (read labels) aren't allowed. This I was surprised to hear includes sausages as most of ... Read the complete review

My wife and I have recently tried Dr Atkins diet, i'm fairly open-minded and did read the book fully before starting on the diet. These are our observations: 1. Yes we did lose weight. I lost 8lbs in a week but i'm not sure how much of that was water as opposed to body fat. My wife lost about 4lbs. 2. If you struggle keeping to low fat diets and the lure of lots of cream and fatty food seems like your dream diet, think again. This diet is quite hard to stick to, especially if you work. It also requires you to give up sugar (in most forms), caffiene and alcohol (in early stages), which for many will not be easy. On this diet I really yearned to ... Read the complete review

Like many others, I have been on just about every diet going - low fat, low carb, fruit fasts, calorie counting, Slimming World, Weight Watchers to name but a few. The one problem I had was hunger control - i found that sometimes the hunger got a hold and instead of eating sensibly I munched my way through the entire contents of the kitchen :o) Let's face it - who hasn't heard of the Atkins diet? It's everywhere you look - people at work are doing it, celebrities are doing and I've even overheard people talking about it in the supermarket. "Just what is this Atkins diet?" I thought. I decided to give it a try for myself and the ... Read the complete review
