I am fan of most science fiction and fantasy, and so Anne McCaffrey's Series of books about the Dragons of Pern, is most enjoyable to me, and I have read these books over and over. I am now reviewing the first in the sequence, "Dragonflight". The Author Anne McCaffrey was born in 1926 in Cambridge Massachusetts. She graduated from Radcliffe College, majoring in Slavonic Languages and Literatures. Dragonflight was published in 1969 as a single book but which now forms the first part of a series. The story centres around two people in particular. The first is a man named F’lar, a young and intelligent Wingmaster from Bendenweyr and also one of the few Dragonriders who now believe in the threat from above. The second is a young woman named Lessa who is a kitchen drudge in the castle of Lord Fax. A man who became Lord of the Hold by murdering Lessa’s parents, the rightful Lord and Lady of the Hold. Th Dragon series is definitely Anne Mccaffrey's best work, and Dragonflight is the first of the series. It was one of the first Sci-fi books I ever read, and years later, when I want to read an uncomplicated, feel-good book, I return to this one. I have read it several times and still love it. It starts on the planet Pern, where a group of people who have a special bond with the telepathic and empathic giant gentle dragons are facing a crisis.
