Advantages: you fall straight into another world and forget about the dismal one that you are in now

Disadvantages: you'll be a hermit when reading the book and your social life would have to suffer for a while

I was introduced to Dragonlance by my boyfriend who is an amazing reader, from Stephen King to fantasy novels. So what I also like, is when he tells me stories. Anyway, He was telling me about this story from the Dragonlance series and I instantly fell in love with it. However, he told me there were like undreds of books in the series and then I thought...NOOOOO! Because there is nothing worse when you read a book and realise you will have to read every book in the series to grasp the whole story. This isn't completely true.

The only problem with Dragonlance is the fact that there ARE so many books that you really don't know where to start and what books are mean to be read in which order. However, I started with 'Dragons of Autumn Twilight' and the 'Dragons of Spring Dawn' and so forth. I am not joking when I say this ... but I was hooked. I don't think ever in my life I have been so hooked on a book before! Everything about it entralled me to the stage where I had to get out in the fresh air and see some natural daylight for my own good! I just had to read some more...then some more.... until I came to the end.

So before I continue with all my ramblings about how amazing these books are I will try and explain it to you folk, to see if I can enthuse you into reading some of these books!

Firstly, don't get put off by the quantity. It is quality all the way. The stories are made by the creators of Dungeons and Dragons and as all fellow geeks recall, one of the best games in the world. (oh I hold that game so dear to my heart!) Anyway, MArgeret Weis and Tracy Hickman are legends. There co wrote many of the books, sometimes sepearately, and it has proved to be a hit everywhere!

It is basically about a group of people who go on adventures, but you may think this sounds crap, but I really don't know how to relay the fact that these are the best books written! The whole book, people, races, dialects,
countries and the world and everything possible is created from scratch in an imaginary world. In this group there are Tanis, the bastard elf .. which is half hjuman, half elf, Tasselhof or Tas, which is a kender (I'll explain all later), Sturm who is a knight of Solamnia, Caramon and Raistlin who are twins but sooooooooo different and so forth.

In these books, since everything is created from scratch, there are all different races and people and have their own language and traits and basically the other world gods. The background to the book is about how the world was ruled by three gods. One of pure good, one of pure evil and the other which was a completely balanced god. Anyway, there are good and bad dragons as well. However, there was peace on earth until mankind slowly destroyed it with wars and stuff with other races, like the elves, dwarves and everything.

However, instead on asking for help off the gods, the people were cursing and damning god saying it was all their faults that the world was screwed and they believed that they left them. Then came the knights of Solamnia which was the region of the knights and they couldn't defeat the evil of course and they were damned as well.
Anyway, the evil god unleashed hell and all the bad dragons.

Through all the books, the ideas and the imaginations of these peopel are astounding. They are just so brilliant. I really advice reading them. The characters are illustrated in such a way that you get so attached to them, you cry and laugh and get angry reading the book as the book manipulates your feelings.

The way that it is written is amazing as they manage to tell a really interesting imaginative story with twists turns and they introduce all the characters in an interweaving kind of way that doesn't make the story sound pathtic and robotic. It interlaces everything together, in which you find out loads about throughout the journeys.

So in conclusion peo
ple, please give this book a go. It is so great, amazing and everything so judge it yourself!

(P.S. Read these PROPER fantasy books and forget all that geeky Harry Potter books! :)

Not sure if I agree with "quality all the way", it's only really the Chronicles and Legends (first two trilogies) that are that well written. The Tales are uneven, and after that the books deteriorate in quality markedly. Of course, having said that I also read the books about 10 years ago... like so many others, apparently! Oh, and by the by, Daisybelle, Tracy Hickman's a bloke!

I must admit to not liking sci-fi that much. However, a well thought out opinion.

I read these books about 10 years ago (Am I really that old??aagh!), and they do lodge in my addled brain as being damn hot!
Careful dissing Harry Potter! I read one, and was entertained for all of...oooh...a minute before realising it was trash. I didn't pay for it by the way.
No...I didn't nick it, it was free.
