Advantages: Original, Immersing, Complex

Disadvantages: Your have to give up a weekend to read it

I had heard so much about Dune when I saw it at a boot fair I jumped at the chance to buy it. It turned out to be the best 50p I ever spent.

The depth of the book is truly magnificent. Frank Herbert did 6 years of research to write this book and it shows in the finished product. The social structure is on of the most fascinating things in Dune. Herbert has created society and religion that uses parts of our own society yet they felt completely alien. The characters are written in a way that immerses you in their thoughts and personality.

This book is a true classic in its sheer originality and the way it has stood the test of time. The only thing you can compare it to is the works of J R R Tolken
