Dune by Frank Herbert (Dune - Frank Herbert)

This is set a long way in the future and is a story of change and development, of evolution and revolution. The background is a quasi-feudal society comprising a mixture of medieval and futuristic, mainly due to a previous revolution against the thinking machine. The main protagonist is Paul Atreides, the son of a Duke who rules a world on behalf of the Emperor. The Emperor sends the Duke to rule the planet Arrakis and to manage the production of the spice melange which gives the power of prescience to those that ingest it. Betrayal and murder ensue, leaving Paul and his mother homeless - how will he regain his inheritance and avenge his dead father...read on. Summary: |
