Advantages: epic masterpiece

Disadvantages: slow to start

This is a magnificent story. Chances are that you have seen the film which is very impressive. The film is similar to the book but there are lots of differences which make the book a really good read. It was a little bit hard to get into the first time I tried to read it but once you get going it is really superb.

There is a good evoloution of characters in this masterpeice set at some unknown point in the future, there are vast technological differences between this time and ours and the technology seems to be more driven by engineering than by electronics. This is also reflected by the industrial feel to the film.

There is a lot more made in this book of the Fremen and this is a definite bonus. A really good read if you like generally accessible science fiction.
