Death in Dark Waters - Patricia Hall
by sunmeilan - written on 09/06/09 (Very useful, 119 readings)
Rating:
are more deaths? Or could Ackroyd s interference bring danger to herself and to the investigation? Although not one of the most memorable writers of modern crime fiction, Patricia Hall is nevertheless a competent story-teller and I have already enjoyed two or three of her novels. Set in a place called Bradfield, which seems to be a barely veiled description of Bradford, she takes a number of modern social problems, such as racism and drug-use, as the basis for her stories. This is the ninth book in the Thackeray and Ackroyd series, although it is not at all vital that they are read in order. Having a reporter working together with the police is not exactly new - ...

Death in a Far Country - Patricia Hall

Thackeray discovers that Laura has harboured an important witness to the first girl s death, will their relationship survive? And will the murderer ever be brought to justice? Patricia Hall is an author of whom I am vaguely aware from reading reviews of her other books on this review site. I didn t have particularly high expectations of her work though, simply because I have read a lot of crime fiction and I am not that easily impressed these days. I was pleasantly surprised. Although not without its flaws, this is a compelling story that had me gripped from beginning to end. The combination of policeman/reporter working in tandem is not exactly new territory - ...

Dead on Arrival - Patricia Hall

I was first made aware of the author Patricia Hall through an opinion written by elkiedee on another opinion site and thus trotted (or rather hobbled as my leg was in plaster at the time) off to my local library in search of some of her work. Probably the last time I was in a library was many years ago when studying for my finals and that was only because the cute girl from my International Economics lectures always studied in the same place on the 4th floor. Anyway enough about my life as a stalker, there was a lack of Patricia Hall novels in my local library with the exception of “Dead on Arrival” which was fortunate as this was one of the ones elkiedee had recommended ...
