"Dying Light" is the first and only Stuart MacBride book I have read. It is not the type of book I would normally buy but as it was given to me by a friend, I thought I might as well read it. The main character is Logan McRae, a Detective Sergeant in the Aberdeen police force. As the officer who ordered a raid on a warehouse, where it was thought stolen goods were being stored, he becomes the fall guy when the raid goes wrong and a police constable ends up in a coma. Stuart Macbride has done for Aberdeen what Ian Rankin did for Edingburgh and turned out a well-rounded, yet flawed, character set amidst the low-life in Scotlands 'Granite City'. However, where Rankin paints his tales with Rebus's cynicism Macbride fills his with a whole host of colourful characters and prose that can often make you laugh out loud.
