Each Peach Pear Plum came home in my daughters bookbag this Easter holiday so we're getting to read it every night. To be honest on initial sight of this book I wasnt wowed. It looked dated and I wasnt sure that I was going to enjoy reading it.On closer inspection it perhaps gives this first impression as it was actually first published in 1978! Each Peach Pear Plum is written by Janet and Allan Ahlberg.Allan was born in Croydon in 1938 and grew up near Birmingham. From the age of twelve, his dream was to be a writer but before turning to this he tried his hand at a variety of jobs including postman, grave digger, plumber's mate and teacher. Janet Hall ... I couldn't believe that this was written in 1978...........I'm getting old!! It is a fabulous book for young children which has certainly stood the test of time. ******************************************** The content and style. ******************************************** It is essentially an 'I spy' book and indeed on the back of the book the author says: " In this book with your little eye. Take a look and play I spy". It is however an 'I spy' with a difference since each sentence is part of a nursery rhyme or fairytale which leads very cleverly to the next. In total there are 9 famous characters from nursery rhymes / fairytales ... Read the complete review

This has to be a modern day classic for young children. **THE STORY** ”In this little book With your little eye Take a look And play ‘I spy’” So begins the book, and as you read it, it becomes apparent that it is an “I spy” book, allowing the children to search for familiar nursery rhyme and fairy tale characters as they read the story. If I write the first 2 pages, the pattern of the whole story can be understood. “Each Peach, Pear, Plum I spy Tom Thumb” At this stage, children should be encouraged to look for Tom Thumb, and there he is, hiding in the apple tree. Turn the ... Read the complete review

Each, Peach, Pear Plum is one of the most unusual books for children that I have come across. But that's to be expected from this fairly well known author of childrens books, Allan Ahlberg and Janet Ahlberg. Husband and wife, meeting at the same course Sunderland to train as teachers, both went on to be a brilliant authors for childrens books. Allan tended to the writing as well as being a full time teacher and Janet turning her back on teaching to be a graphic designer illustrated. There has been no looking back for the Ahlberg's since there first book " The old joke book" was published by Penguin back in 1978 and I can honestly say I'm not ... Read the complete review

Each Peach Pear Plum is a childrens book which was written by Allan Ahlberg and illustrated by Janet Ahlberg. Allan and Janet were husband and wife and had a number of successful childrens books published together. Each Peach Pear Plum was first published in 1978 and is a classic childrens book which many young adults will remember from their childhood - this is certainly the reason why my daughters uncle brought this book for her. You can't beat those good old childhood memories. It's one of those books that has really lasted the test of time and appeals as much to children now as it did over 30 years ago. There are 2 versions of this book - a ... Read the complete review
