Advantages: James Bond action style- great fun for gals as well as boyz

Disadvantages: you might kill yourself with suspense

If you've read other books by Anthony Horowitz, you will know there is a noticeable difference between them and the Alex Rider books. The hilarious humour that marks the 'Diamond Brothers' series and 'Granny' is replaced by a serious and hard, action packed plot. No more puns in every other line, but action and suspense round every corner.

Alex Rider, a mini James bond character is a mere 14 year old, skilled with martial arts, walking the tight rope, driving any vehicle over earth, sea and sky, and speaking an impressive assortment of languages: the golden hero. Trouble is, he's a reluctant one, too.

Forced into the service of MI6 after the suspicious death of his guardian, Alex finds himself armed with innovative gadgets and going through a series of missions, over a very short period of time- and six books.

Funnily enough, they all involve saving the world from psychos, power hungry millionnaires and crazy doctors.

Nevertheless, they provide hours of edge-of-the-chair suspense. Brilliant graphical descriptions. A brilliant read for all teenagers and even over 20's.

Personally, I can't wait for the next one!
