Advantages: Healthy eating plan, Lots of foods to choose from, Does seem to work
Disadvantages: Depending on your blood type you could be changing eating habits drastically, Need to write out food lists to make it easier to follow
I bought this book after having heard about it in the magazines and seeing Martine Mccutcheon looking fantastic after having followed this diet. The principles behind it are that depending on your blood type, you should eat certain foods. I was suprised that for my blood type B, i should not eat alot of things that i actually did eat! In my case things like wheat were a definate no no and chicken as it contains lectin in the muscle which clogs the system. I ate alot of both as i don't eat that much red meat. Shell fish is also a favourite of mine and something i shouldn't eat. Well once you have read through the historical reasoning behind your blood type diet the book takes you to the lists of foods you can and cannot eat. They are divided into Avoid, Neutral and Beneficial. For me the hardest part has been replacing wheat-its in everything! Pasta, bread, cereals etc. Rice cakes just aren't the same! However you can get wheat free pasta which tends to be made of corn or rice instead. Its more expensive but if im desperate for a plate of pasta then i use that. Really its not a diet as such but a healthy eating plan. In the summer its easier as im having salads at lunch but i guess you could have soup or other foods to replace that sarnie. It does state though that a slice or two of bread won't wreck everything its just a food that i should avoid eating generally. I found i felt much less bloated cutting out the wheat and you do lose weight mainly as you are cutting out calories and eating more fruit and veg-again this depends on your blood type as some types have a strictly vegetarian diet whilst others have more meats etc. I found this diet suited what i liked anyway within reason. Funnily enough since starting this diet i found out i had a 100% nickel allergy which is contained as well in many foods such as brown bread, tomatoes, corn etc many of the foods that are on my "avoid" list so there mus
t be something in that!! All in all a sensible eating plan although it would be beneficial to write all the foods out on an easy to refer to list, which i take with me shopping. Some foods on the list are quite unusual and i guess easier to get hold of in the States than here but there are many alternatives. Also many people don't know their blood type, but i guess its one way of making you want to find out!
