“Echo Burning” is the latest offering from Lee Child in the Jack Reacher series. The story this time is Reacher needs to get out of a city in a hurry as he assaulted an out of order of duty policeman in a bar. When he spots the same man searching his hotel the following day he knows he has to get moving. Reacher is a nomad and carries little in the way of possessions so his best option is to try and hitch a lift. Reacher thinks this is a long shot as it is the middle of the summer, temperatures are soaring and not many people are willing to pick up an unkempt 6ft 5 inch 40 year old. His surprise is compounded when an attractive lady stops ... Read the complete review

Echo Burning is the fifth novel in Lee Child's series of books written around the fictional character of Jack Reacher. Reacher is a loner. He always has been and always will be. Travelling is not only something he has become used to but also something that in his heart of hearts he enjoys. First as an army wrenched for continent to continent, school to school and then as an officer in the military police moving from job to job, conflict to conflict; he has becoming used to owning little and that's just the way he wants things to stay. Being tied down by someone or something is not really a prospect he relishes. He'd much rather remain a tugboat tossed around ... Read the complete review

I received this book for my birthday and it is an author I had heard of and thought of trying but never got round to it. Reading the blurb on the back it sounded very interesting but part of a series (the fifth one) and I hoped this would not effect the read too much as I hadn't read any of the others. It starts off with the main characters, Jack Reacher, CV which I thought was a little odd but guessed it gave you some background into the character if you've never read one before. The CV explains his vital statistics, education, his career in the army and military police, the fact all his family are deceased and he doesn't live anywhere. It starts ... Read the complete review

In Lee Child’s fifth novel, his hero Jack Reacher is hitching rides in Texas. He is not bothered about who picks him up, as long as he can keep moving. However, when it is Carmen with a daughter who is being watched and a husband in jail, Reacher is thrown into another exciting tale, mixing lies, prejudice, hatred and murder. With ‘Echo Burning’, Lee Child has another success on his hands. Jack Reacher has developed a lot since his first novel, ‘Killing Floor’, but even now, Child is still capable of adding more sides and actions to the character. Here, we learn more of his past and what makes him tick as a person. The ... Read the complete review
