David Eddings is one of my all time favorite Fantasy Authors. He wrote some excellent books over the years that I have really enjoyed. However he sadly died a few months back at the age of 77. I wanted to review him in general as I so enjoyed many of his books. David Eddings was born in Washington State in America back in 1931. He spent most of his life in America and its where he did his writing. His first books of any real note were the Belgariad series which consisted of five books. Pawn of prophecy, Queen of Sorcery, Magicians Gambit, Castle of Wizardry and Enchanters end game. These were the first books he released on a big scale and were a massive ... Read the complete review

Of the Eddings books that I've read there has not been a bad one. The Belgariad, Mallorean, the accompanying books and The Redemption of Althalus not a single one has been bad. Most are serious but Belgarath the Sorceror was quite obviously written for a bit of fun and it is all the better for it. I really can't sing enough praises for this author as he is simply just 'TOO GOOD'. Edding work caters for Fantasy enthusiast and newcomer alike and all of them are almost guaranteed to get even the fantasy skeptic hooked as they are not written is the sytle of the typical "dungeons and dragons book. Great stuuf all aver from a true fantasy ... Read the complete review

David Eddings started out writing adventure novels before moving into the fantasy genre. His books are multiple character based, usually revolving around one central charcter, and typically span multiple novels. he recently admitted that his wife collaborated on his novels and her name was added to the covers and titles. Eddings was one of my first fantasy authors. For that, he will always hold a special place in my book collection. I think that Eddings is very good as an opener for fantasy in that he is simple to read, readable, and enjoyable, without being overly taxing. I think of Eddings as easing people into the world of fantasy literature, and showing them how to approach it. I would not, nor could, describe him as the best author, or best fantasy writer ever. Why? Simply because he is not complex, or in depth, and to put it simply, his books take on repetitive themes and ideas. This is not to say that his books become tiresome, simply that they smack of deja vu, and what ... Read the complete review

I must admit, I have every one of David Eddings' books, and I have read every one about 4 times. The only trouble is that having read other fantasy authors such as Raymond Feist, Terry Brooks and of course Tolkein I am becoming disatisfied with eddings! The so called witty repartie amongst the charcters is not so much witty as tiresome and childish. He appears to be a disjointed writer, who seems to switch between gruesome detail and childlike innocence of his characters. It seems to me that he makes up the plot and makeup of the characters as he goes along, there are so many holes in the storyline that it's like a piece of gorgonzola ... Read the complete review
Products similar to David Eddings in general
You Only Live Twice - Ian Fleming
Enjoyably strange
Lacks action
Grave Peril - Jim Butcher
Gritty Detective drama with vampires and moody spirits thrown in
Jim Butcher is very selective what he reveals about Dresden's shady and often chequered past
Make-A-Word Magnets - Lorraine Horsley
Lots of educational values and fun illustrations.
Magnets are initially difficutlt to remove and no place to store them!
The Intruders - Michael Marshall
Some who enjoy this genre are likely to enjoy this book
It doesn't quite seem able to 'fit' a genre at times. Could be stronger.
Thomas & Friends: Toby - W. Awdry
It's got large writing, a lovely story, colourful pictures!
The paper is thin and kids could easily rip it!
The Return to Melnibone - Michael Moorcock
Art / Architecture / Photography - Moorcock, Michael
