Out of the touristy areas there are places where you will need police escorts, where you are not welcome and will be sent back the way you came or where buses only pass once a week. If it wasn't for this book I wouldn't have known where was safe to travel, where I could catch a bus and where I could stay without getting escorted away. The book is set out very simply with a...more

Premium Review Lonely Planet Country Guide Egypt - Joann Fletcher: Essential travel companion (258 words)

I'm so pleased to find this on here waiting to be reviewed because I was so so pleased that I bought thisbook. I went to Egypt on holiday and thought it might be a good idea to try and do a circuit of the country in two weeks without using a tour or anything. by - written on 08/12/06 (Very useful, 115 readings)
Rating:

" …nowhere are there so many marvellous things nor in the world besides are there things of unspeakable greatness" ( Herodotus, Greek historian) Having spent several months during 1984 (how old??) wandering aimlessly around Egypt, with little more than enthusiasm, the clothes I stood in and a smile, we decided it was time to return with information at our fingertips and a slightly higher budget. So, the holiday was booked and I made it my mission to learn a little about the country I had previously spent some considerable time wandering. We had booked to go to the Red Sea Coast, and I wanted to know something about the area ...  Read the complete review
