The Edinburgh Stories, Arthur Conan Doyle As you might expect from the title, this is a collection of stories set in Edinburgh or with an Edinburgh connexion and although they aren't among Doyle's best stories, almost everything he wrote is well worth reading, even if only for the light it sheds on his better work and his personality. "Parasite", the tale of a "half-caste" woman hypnotically dominating a college professor, was interesting from a psycho-sexual point of view, for example, and Sherlock Holmes completists will definitely want to have a (very) short story about Holmes reading Watson's mind following his receipt of a ...
