Advantages: Dragons!!

Disadvantages: Cliched

Eldest, part two of the Inheritance series that started with Eragon, was an enjoyable book. This carries on from where Eragon left off, Eragon and Saphira going off to join the elves to learn more about what it means to be Rider and Dragon. And meanwhile Eragon's cousin Roran sets out to lead the people of his town to safety, to find his stolen love and to join up with the resistance.
Despite the cliches, the parts obviously taken from other books or movies and the easy to guess "suprises" along the way I couldn't help but be enthralled by the whole thing. This is the kind of book that you read, not to be amazed by it as a piece of art or culture but to enjoy and be entertained. There were some really shocking revealations on the way just as there were ones that made me think, "Well no s*** Sherlock", and some interesting character development. I really enjoyed the differences between this and Eragon; especially the way it was split into two seperate stories that were happening simultaneously. Overall, this is a good read despite it's flaws but not for those looking for intellectual stimulation. I will read the next book when it comes out later this year but again I won't be expecting a masterpiece.

Summary: Further adventures of Eragon as he learns more about being a Rider
