I have to be honest and admit, that although I had heard of Elmer the elephant books, I had not actually read one until I picked up this story of Elmer and the Rose, retailing at £5.99 in Waterstones. David McKee is the author of these wonderful stories about Elmer, and the beautiful and colourful illustrations are attractive to children, even very young children. Elmer is a colouful patchwork elephant and the stories about him and his friends have been published since the late 80's by Anderson Press. ***The Author*** David McKee is well known amongst parents because of the Elmer series, but a few of you probably aren't aware that he also created Mr Benn and King Rollo. I may have lost some of the younger readers of this now, but if so, just mention them to your parents and I'm sure they will explain how big they were in the 70s.
