Elmer by David McKee

I read Elmer to the children at school today a wonderful character, so I just had to tell you how much I like Elmer.
Elmer is a patchwork elephant. In the book I read today Elmer was fed up with being different to the other elephants, Elmer is a brightly coloured patchwork Elephant all the other elephants are grey . Elma does not like being different .
A sad Elmer spots some grey grapes and rolls in them, the juice colours Elmer grey like the other elephants.
When you see all the other elephants they are playing hide and seek. They can?t find Elmer, they are sad that their friend is not there.
Then there is a rain storm and Elmer?s grey dye washes of to reveal a brightly coloured Elmer. All the other elephants are so happy to see Elmer again and they tell Elmer they love him for who he is they like his bright colours.

This book is so beautifully illustrated bright colours for Elmer greys for everyone else very simple drawings.

This book is a good way of giving a message to children that is doesn?t matter what coulour you are it?s the person inside that counts.
It is a very good book for colour recognituion as elma is all colours including black and white

Elmer great an easy design to copy for wall displays Today I drew and cut out lots of elephants and the children painted the patchwork of coulours on Elmer.There is a lot of Elmer merchandise around which is good and simple shapes wonderfull colours
I have made an Elmer toy/cushion I sewed a patchwork and cut out 2 elephants sewed them together and stuffed it.
I expect I shall Elma many more times. There are About 18 Elma stories Written by David Mckee. Thanks for reading Mary
