Elmer's Hide-and-seek - David McKee
by tb4ms - written on 30/12/06 (Very useful, 74 readings)
Rating:
~ Who is Elmer? ~ Elmer is the creation of David McKee. I m never sure of the sex of Elmer, the name to me suggests a girl but I would appreciate it if someone could verify this. Anyway I will for the purpose of this review use she . Elmer is an elephant, but no ordinary elephant...............she s not grey like the others but is a brightly coloured patchwork elephant who instantly appeals to young children who generally love vibrant colours. Elmer was first introduced in 1989 with the book Elmer , since then David McKee has written countless books in the series: * Elmer Again * Elmer on Stilts * Elmer and Wilbur * Elmer and the Wind * Elmer and the Lost Teddy * ...

Rating:
the other elephants amused. The only unusual thing about Elmer is that Elmer is not 'elephant colour'. Oh no, Elmer is multicoloured, technicoloured patchwork, original and unique. David McKee's creation, featured in several different 'Elmer' books, celebrates the importance of being different. No mean feat, it takes us adults years of awkwardness, embaressment, and wanting to be the same as our class mates and peers, only to realise that to be an individual is great. 'Elmer Again' is one of my favourite Elmer stories. The 'Elmer's Day Parade' is almost upon the herd. The day each year when they celebrate Elmer's greatest ...

Elmer and the Wind - David McKee

Rating:
If this is your first introduction to Wilbur, as it was for me, it may be a little confusing as they don't mention that Wilbur is a ventriloquist. It was only by reading "Elmer and Wilbur" later that it all made sense. In this story the two elephants, one patchwork (Elmer)and one checked (Wilbur), pretend to be blown way by the wind ...
