"Almost as soon as I began to research this book, it became clear that there were as many cult followings as there were TV shows. This made it a much bigger project than was first envisaged". I can well believe it. In the end Lewis admits that a line had to be drawn, and that line would no doubt be an arbitrary one. It starts around 1960 and ends roughly around 198 ...more

Premium Review Encyclopaedia of Cult Children's TV, The - Richard Lewis: The Truth About Captain Pugwash (1024 words)

It must say something about you when your friend buys you "The Encyclopaedia of Cult Children's TV" for Christmas. I'm not sure what it says about you, but I'm sure it must say something. So this was my experience - not this Christmas just gone, but the Christmas before. And I was absolutely delighted! Perhaps now I would be able to once and for all expel the myth about Master Bates and Seaman Staines on "Captain Pugwash", maybe I'd find out what Mr Benn actually did for a living, and who the hell was Bod anyway? In fact, this book turns out to be a real education, both for the children's TV aficionado and ...  Read the complete review

This is a lovely, funny little book. It has a picture of that famous Test Card on the cover (the one with the little girl playing noughts and crosses against a toy clown, from the days when toy clowns looked innocent, rather than like something out of a horror movie.) The cover also combines ...  Read the complete review

Covers many titles Not in enough depth

Humorous, readable, and informative. Does not tell the reader how the phaser works.

Informative, Readable Goes into some detailBest suited for film fan

a very substantial study of Fulci’s work; features a deep and complex analysis if some of Fulci’s films without becoming pretentious; surprisingly, for a book of this nature, the text is very readable in all but a couple of places. further study of the man himself, especially with regard to the effect his harsh family life and severe illness in later life, might have lead to even further insight into the films.

A nice easy read, would be great for anyone with no knowledge of the period who wants to learn more The story is basically a rehashing of old facts, the author seemed slightly out of her comfort zone

good clean enterntainment cost to ring in
