This 648 page tome from the Royal Horticultural Society is an absolute wealth of gardening information. The RHS are famous for their outstanding books and this one justifies their reputation. When I say it contains an absolute wealth of information, I really do mean it. The book includes sections on garden planning and design, trees, shrubs, climbers, perennials, annuals, bulbs, cacti, herbs, vegetables, fruit, indoor plants, water gardens, rock gardens, lawns, greenhouses, tools & equipment, climatic considerations, soil and fertilizers, propogation, plant problems and even basic botany. If you have just started gardening, I cannot recommend this book enough. If you have been gardening for years, there will probably be something new in here for you. If all you have is a few pots and houseplants, this book covers them! As its name implies, this is an encylopedia of gardening, with clear diagrams showing techniques, sufficient text to be interesting, and enough pictures to help understand the text.
