Enduring love has one of the most brilliantly written openming chapters of any book that In hyave ever read, the mageasterial sweep and sharp characteristaion launch this book with a bang. It was an utter travesty that this sensational book didn't win the booker prize. The story concerns a science writer who ends up being stalked by a young man after they both witness a death (that first chapter again). The strain of the stalking causes his marriage to break up. McEwan documents these events with a chillingly apt prose style. This book will stay with you and you'll want to read it again and again (if you don't you're missing out, it only improves with age). A classic in the making.
