On the 21st July 1969, astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first men to walk on the Moon, completing what was arguably the pinnacle of human exploration achievement. This was an exciting time; science fiction authors were confidently predicting Moon bases, men landing on and exploring Mars, as well as the human conquest of the outer solar system.
