The third book in the series.

After reading the first two books within this series of books, I was more than pleased to find the third book just sitting and waiting for me at my local library last week (yes I am that sad! Lol!). The book in question is "Envy" by J R Ward. Seven deadly sins and seven souls to save, one a piece and the competition is neck and neck, with everything to play for........ Thomas "Veck" DelVecchio is a homicide detective with a dark childhood, his father is a world famous serial killer, who murdered a string of women, including Veck's own mother. He has always felt that he has lived his life on a knife edge, sliding neither towards good or evil, but always feeling his past may well be part of his future! After an incident that involved Veck, a known killer an a so called loss of memory on Veck's behalf, Veck has to be investigated incase it was him that tried to kill the killer! Sophia Reilly has been charged with investigating Veck, which unfortunately means mixing business with pleasure as her interest in him is both professional and increasing personal! This of course makes Veck the ideal candidate to play out the next chapter of the heaven and hell game that will determine either life as we now it, or eternal damnation for us all! Enter Jim Heron, newly fallen angel or has to battle against Davina (the representative for hell, and a right nasty little demon!), instead of worrying about the task in hand, which of course is to influence Veck enough, so that when the mans time comes, he will pick the right path, the path towards light and goodness, thus securing Jim a much needed second win. Instead all Jim can think about is the poor girl who Davina murdered to secure her abode on earth (she must use the blood of a virgin!), and spends far too much time trying to recover her soul from Davina's persona collection! Will this be Jim's undoing? After reading the first two books in this series I knew what to expect, these books are jam packed with violence and sex, with even Jim's two angel assistants being big hefty biker dudes, who pick up chicks at every bar they go to! Davina is of course the devil incarnate, but has the ability to change her appearance with her choosing the body of a supermodel, and literally screwing her way to victory, though she now has a new obstacle to overcome, that being her new infatuation with Jim, he is sex on legs for her, and is willing to exchange a few services to get what he wants too, though this does come at a price, every time he sleeps with her she gains a little of his soul! The book is fast paced, and even with the subject matter sounding highly unlikely, it really does seem to work. Every character within the book from the fallen angels, to Davina the demon, even through to Nigel the angel game co-ordinater makes you question your preconceived notions of them, with Nigel having what many would consider a blasphemous gay relationship with a fellow angel, through to the biker dudes bonking their way through human kind, it feels refreshing to read, thus making it more realistic. This is obviously a book for an adult, the sex scenes are extremely detailed and raunchy, with the murder scenes being as vivid, but was a completely absorbing book, and one that I thoroughly enjoyed, recommended!
