Advantages: t's a Discworld novel! What else do you need to know?

Disadvantages: I've read it already. Now let's all link hands and pray for a new Discworld novel...

The last thing Drum Billet did before he died, was to pass his wizard's staff to the eighth son of an eighth son. Unfortunately the eighth son's father refused to let the midwife speak before this had happened. And she had a really good reason to want to speak. The 'eighth' son was really a daughter.

Whoever gets the staff has to be a wizard. But who's heard of a FEMALE wizard? Why, it's... ridiculous! Well, that's what all the wizards are saying. But Eskarina, when she grows up, she wants to be a wizard. "Being a witch is quite good, but I think being a wizard is more fun."

Granny Weatherwax eventually takes Esk to Ankh-Morpork where the wizard university Unseen U is, after training her as a witch. However, Eskarina's not supposed to be witch. She's supposed to be a wizard. And that magical staff is channeling power through her...

With the help of Granny, will Esk ever get "Equal Rites" and become a wizard?
