Eragon - Christopher Paolini ... is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy; perhaps it will buy his family meat for the winter. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself. Overnight his simple life is shattered and he is thrust into a perilous new world of destiny, magic and power.  ... and nothing happened at all for ages. Sometimes, there'd be a whole page just describing one thing, I felt like saying "okay, i've got the picture, can you please do something interesting now!" That put aside, it did pick up towards the end and like I said, the actual storyline is superb. I guess this book is just not the one for me, as I prefer an action packed book with something happening all the time. The film reflected the book well but wasn't so long and boring. Needless to say, I did not go on to buy ...more

Premium Review Eragon - Christopher Paolini: The Awesome Story Of A Rider And His Dragon (938 words)
by - written on 01/10/07 (Very useful, 77 readings)
Rating:

Eragon is the story of teenage boy of the same name. Skilled at hunting, he is tracking some deer one day in a mountain range called "The Spine" near his home in carvahall, but instead of finding the dear, he stumbles on a large sapphire stone. Curious to what it could be and where it came from, he approaches it for a closer look and takes it home with him. The stone appears to be just that; a stone, that is until it's occupant begins to hatch. Eragon has found a dragon egg, the dragon has chosen him to be his "Rider" and he is now thrown into one of the greatest adventure stories ever! Eragon is an excellent book. The story follows Eragon ...  Read the complete review

Rating:

Having heard nothing but praise for this book from my own teenaged sons and my young adult step daughter, and reading the rave reviews critics gave this children's book, I became curious. This turned to an intense desire to read this book when I discovered that it was written by a fifteeen year old boy who was home educated all his life, and soon to be a motion picture. Before I sat down to read it, the film came out and was panned by many, so I gave it a miss, and dismissed the book from my mind. That is, until it came back up quite recently in conversation, and the book and its film adaption was placed firmly in my hands. Being stricken shortly after by ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Eragon - Christopher Paolini: Great read (437 words)
by - written on 19/04/08 (Useful, 55 readings)
Rating:

Eragon is a book that I have read many many times, the reason for this is that I think it is brilliant. The story is about a young farmer boy who in a hunting trip discovers a magical dragon egg. At first Eragon is confused, he has no idea what this beautiful blue polished stone is, but soon it hatches and he grows up to be a legendary dragon rider. The book is set in a land of evil that is dominated by the evil ruler Lord Galbatorix, an evil dragon rider. Throughout the series Christopher Paolini, the author of Eragon, apparently began writing the story at the young age of 15. As a result of all the thought and effort that Paolini has poured into this novel, ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Arise, Dragon Rider! (505 words)
by - written on 16/09/09 (Very useful, 28 readings)
Rating:

Eragon is the first book in what was originally the Inheritance Trilogy, written by Christopher Paolini. Having now written the third book, Paolini has realised that his saga needs a further book, and thus it will now become a quadrilogy. In terms of describing the saga, and its setting, it is set in a fantasy world not dissimilar to that of Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, an old world where magic and elves and dwarves and other monsters and creatures feature heavily, with importance given to destiny and lore. The tale starts off rather innocently with farmboy Eragon, as he stumbles across a strange, purple stone. This is the beginning of the adventure ...  Read the complete review

by - written on 08/06/09 (Very useful, 3 readings)
Rating:

Christopher Paolini started the inheritance cycle of books with Eragon a few years ago. They are a series of books about Dragon Riders, and a young farm boy named Eragon, who discovers a dragon egg in the wilderness. Once Eragons's egg has hatched, a sparkling blue dragon named Saphira is hatched. Eragon must grow Saphira in secret from his uncle and cousin, whom he lives with, for fear they will discover her. But when his uncle is killed, Eragon runs away from the village he is in with mysterious story teller Brom. And later on, he will join the Varden, who are rebels, in the fight against an evil king named Galbatorix. Eragon is a book that is for ...  Read the complete review
