Advantages: When you start reading you can't stop
Disadvantages: There are none
Eragon is a book that I have read many many times, the reason for this is that I think it is brilliant. The story is about a young farmer boy who in a hunting trip discovers a magical dragon egg. At first Eragon is confused, he has no idea what this beautiful blue polished stone is, but soon it hatches and he grows up to be a legendary dragon rider. The book is set in a land of evil that is dominated by the evil ruler Lord Galbatorix, an evil dragon rider. Throughout the series
Christopher Paolini, the author of Eragon, apparently began writing the story at the young age of 15. As a result of all the thought and effort that Paolini has poured into this novel, there are plots everywhere throughout the book.
The book belongs to a family of books called the inheritance cycle, with in it there are 4 books; Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr (which will be released on September 20) and a final fourth book that has not yet been named. The reason for the naming of the cycle is that throughtout the series many important people die, only for their children to follow in their footsteps to become important leaders.
I'll get onto the proper plot of the story now and stop rambling on. As said before Eragon was originally a farmboy, before he found a life changing egg that would turn him into a legend. When the egg hatches a baby blue dragon is born. Eragon opts to raise it in secret and soon names it Saphira. Soon though Eragon's life is soon upturned once again when Lord Galbatorix, the evil ruler, sends his evil servants to find Eragon. Eragon escapes but his uncle is found and killed by Galbatorix' servants. Eragon has to leave his local village Carvahall after this with the old storyteller Brom. He vows to kill Galbatorix and his servants.
Throught the book Eragon learns to fight and fly his mighty dragon, with the final few chapters containing a great battle in which Eragon defeats an evil shade to become a legend.
The first two books have contained many spiralling plots and as result there are many, many rumours regarding the third and fourth book. If you want to see any of these rumours I would deffinately suggest that you visit www.shurtugal.com
Filled with great twisting plots, thrilling characters and scenarios, Eragon is a great read and a book I would certainly recommend it as it is on of the greatest books I have ever read.
Summary: You have to buy this book!!!

- 20/04/08 Phew. No more 7400 words here then. A much better update imparting what you think. Thank you for that! |

- 20/04/08 Irrespective of our obvious differences in opinion over this book (I think it's a load of badly written tripe and completely unoriginal, being pieced together from other, better works), this is barely a review. To me, this reads more like a piece for college because it's more of an analysis than a review. Plus, if my eyes weren't deceiving me (and they might have been because they were bleeding about a fifth of the way in), you go on to talk about the other three books in the series, two of which haven't even been published yet. I think that adequately explains the rating!
If only you'd done what you said at the start of the "review" and stopped rambling on... |

- 20/04/08 Hi Jack
Im sorry about the poor rating. However if there are parts taken
from other sites it would be better to put them in above the
sections you have copied so that they can be referenced. Ive just
had a quick look at your review again and cant find the reference
to the website company you quote. This is a consumer website
based on shopping experience of products. It would be generally
be better to cut the "rumour" section out - why would you want to
put one in anyway - its a book review so it should reflect what the
book is about, what YOU think about the writing and a general
conclusion based on YOUR experience = not listed rumours from
other people around the internet. |
