Advantages: INSIGHT INTO WRESTLING IN NINETIES
Disadvantages: SHIFTS BLAME CONSTANTLY
CONTROVERSY CREATES CASH is the autiobiography of Eric Bischoff.
Bischoff is famous in the wrestling world for been the man behind WCW in the nineties when it was becoming more poular than the WWF.
Consequently the book doesn't feature much of Bischoff growing up which I liked as celebrities as children is hardly ever entertaining in books.
Bischoff explains how he got into WCW and his dealings with owner Ted Turner. The relationship between these two men is interesting as they argued constantly. Bischoff talks of his excitement when WCW was at his peak and on the brink of overtaking WWF. The part on the Monday Night Wars is fascinating as Nitro and Raw went up against each other. The stories about Bischoff siging superstars from WWF and even announcing the matches for Raw on Nitro are great reads and really gives detail as to what really hapened.
Like most wrestling books Bischoff talks about the backstage politics of the business. He says what wrestlers he got on with and the ones he really despises. Bischoff is brutally honest and the people he dislikes, he really hates. He is honest about the mistakes made in WCW that led to it's downfall, although I got the impression he was trying to shift the blame on to other people rather than himself.
There is a brief section about his shock appointment as genereal manager of WWE raw that shook the wrestling world and his relationship with Vince McMahon. I think a longer section on how he joined the WWE would have been appropriate as it was so suprising.
Since Bischoff is such a controversial figure this book was always going to be enjoyable. He talks openly and doesn't admit to being a nice man. The book veers away from family life and childhood which make sit more interesting. The book lacks humour, but is still vey entertaining. Fans of wrestling in the nineties will love this book.
