Advantages: Very clear , covers EVERYTHING! goo use of colour
Disadvantages: American - so you have to remember some of the names are different.
This author has produced a number of books and study aids based around the same idea - I find the full version more useful and that is what I have rated..........
The depth and level of this book has alIowed me to use this book continuously throughout my biology GCSE's , A-levels and the first 2 years of medical school and I have no doubt that it will continue to be a good resource for a while to come.
I am using the 2nd edition but the 5th edition was released last year which contains a CD-rom with quizzes and tutorials on it (I borrowed it from the library - well worth it for revision but not much else)
As a medical student I seem to have more anatomy and physiology books than the average library but consistently i return to this book either for answers I can't find anywhere else or clearer explanations than most texts give.
One of this book's great strengths is it's use of colour - not only are the sections colour coded for quick refernce but the quality of the diagrams and pictures are excellent. All of the diagrams are very simple while at the same time manageing to convey all the information that is needed - this makes them excellent for copying into your own notes as reminders of dissections or lectures.
Much of the information is presented in many different formats, allowing for greater understanding and the use of tables makes it an excellent revision aid as you don't have to go trawling through the text for the bits you missed in lectures!
My favourite (and most used) sections are those on muscles, cranial nerves and vascular structures. These sections particularly stand out as I have found it rare for a textbook to cover these topics in such a concise manner. I once spent hours constructing tables of muscle origins, attachments, actions and innervations only to find once again that I only needed to get this book off the shelf to find exactly those tables!

This book won't sustain you as a sole resource but is a particularly useful addition for the basics and beyond and the clarity has to be seen to be believed! many people are turned off this book as it aimed at american students - but really once you get the hang of a few different names there is no problem at all.
