Wilbur Smith is a good old-fashioned writer of adventure stories. Many of his books fall within a number of series. However, he has also written some stand-alone novels, of which this is one. The story, as with most of Smith's books, is set in Africa and, having been born and raised in Zambia, the author has a genuine knowledge and real feel for the African continent, which comes across very strongly in his books. Harry Bruce, the soldier, gets sick of the killing. He decides to do a simple robbery, get some cash and buy a boat. Sounds simple, but his partner takes off with the loot. He takes on another job, on his own, another simple robbery. He makes an error, alarms the guards, and the police.
