Advantages: Stephen Kings wonderful wiriting stlye
Disadvantages: Simple Plot
This is rather a different kind of 'King' book. In interviews he has often expressed disappointment to have been 'tagged' a horror writer.
And so he tries his hands at fantasy. Doing a very good job.
The plot is rather simple. Flagg, and any of Stephen King's constant readers will recognize that name, a rather evil magician wishes to gain power in the kingdom. He kills the King and arranges the elder son to take the fall, as he feels the younger son is weak and impressionable.
Everything goes to plan, King dead, elder son imprisoned in the highest tower in the city, lots of power. Naturally the elder son escapes, in a very ridiculous manner that is somewhat reminiscent of Rapunzel. The rest of the book follows the expected manner.
So, not an original story at all, but with Stephen King's excellent, and easy to read writing style, an enjoyable read none-the-less. Nice and interesting characters, that are very well written will help keep you engaged.
And any of King's constant readers will enjoy this new glance at Flagg.
If you ever thought that Stephen King only wrote horror, then you need to check out this book!
Summary: Stpehen King lends his great wiriting to a simple fanatsy novel

- 19/10/08 yes, it was indeed. Actually I brought this book before I brought the Dark Tower series, because I wanted to check if King could write fantasy - yes he can |
