Throughout his story, he explains his main reason for wanting to keep going was to survive to tell the world of the horrors he witnessed and experienced. He moved to Western Europe in 1969 and Eyewitness Auschwitz was published in 1979. As far as I can tell, Muller is still alive and 85 years old. I can't find a record of his death online anyway. I have read many books about the Holocaust and especially about Auschwitz, as I find it a fascinating time in history for many reasons. I think it teaches us a lesson about how humans can behave too - both as the aggressors and as the survivors. While each book I read horrifies me further as the atrocities committed by the Nazis are described in different ways, yet each person's story also fills me with a sense of awe and pride. The victims and survivors of Auschwitz and other concentration camps were so often brave, inventive and quick-thinking.
