Before leaving for the Algarve in Portugal I bought an Eye Witness Travel Guide, it is actually called Top Ten Algarve and I really did find it useful, in fact it came to be a very handy book and for the price of 6.99 well worth the money. I did actually browse through it before we left to get a basic idea of where we were going but to be quite honest I didn't really study it until we arrived. We hired a car and started to plan our seven days stay with the guide it was so easy to follow. Just inside of the front cover a good sized map can be found with all the resorts and main roads etc very easy to follow in fact we normally buy a map of ... Read the complete review

With so many options out there for the traveller it can be hard to choose a travel guide. You'll find some people swear by Rough Guide, Lonely Planet or Time Out but I swear by DK Eyewitness Travel Guide. The first one I ever bought was in Rome and I fell in love with them then and there. There are several options as Eyewitness do large versions of their city and country guides as well as smaller top ten and pocket map & guides. I currently own Eyewitness guides for Austria, Italy, Greece, London, Paris, Rome, Dublin, Munich and Barcelona. I have Top 10 Guides for Florence and Barcelona as well as pocket guides for Toronto, Vienna and Dublin. ... Read the complete review

No would be traveller should visit a country or city, (in my humble opinion) without doing a bit of back ground reading and researching. This really helps you make the most of your trip, whether it be itinerary setting, helping decide where to stay or what restaurants or cafes to eat in. Over my travels l have tried various guides – Lonely Plant, Rough Guides, Time Out, Insight Guides and finally DK Eyewitness Guides. Whilst all guides will tell you relatively the same information, the Eyewitness series is somewhat different. It’s a guide you can pop in and out of, colourful and lots of pictures of your would be destination which helps fuel excitement and ... Read the complete review

How good are these travel guides? I got my first one free with a holiday I booked to Paris in January, and since then whenever I go away, this is the one I buy. So far I have 3 editions, and a 4th is on it's way in the post as we speak. So what's so good about these compared to, say, Rough guides, or Time Out guides? Here's my list : 1. They contain detailed street by street maps for the city which means you don't need to carry round a separate map too 2. They contained in depth info on hotels, restaurants and cafes to suit all budgets, plus give the map references so you can find them easily 3. They generally look at ... Read the complete review

I have been travelling around the world on holiday for most of my life, and since discovering these guides, I have found out so much more valuable information before I travel. The Eye Witness Guides originally were produced only for some of the world's capital cities - London, Paris etc. However, they now cover a lot more cities as well as some American states - I'm amazed at how may there are now (guides that is). I have collected a number of these guides for Rome, Florida, Prague etc. and recommend them for the following reasons: * They give a history of the country/city you are visiting * They are packed with information on places to ...
