Before leaving for the Algarve in Portugal I bought an Eye Witness Travel Guide, it is actually called Top Ten Algarve and I really did find it useful, in fact it came to be a very handy book and for the price of 6.99 well worth the money. I did actually browse through it before we left to get a basic idea of where we were going but to be quite honest I didn't really study it until we arrived. We hired a car and started to plan our seven days stay with the guide it was so easy to follow. No would be traveller should visit a country or city, (in my humble opinion) without doing a bit of back ground reading and researching. This really helps you make the most of your trip, whether it be itinerary setting, helping decide where to stay or what restaurants or cafes to eat in. Over my travels l have tried various guides – Lonely Plant, Rough Guides, Time Out, Insight Guides and finally DK Eyewitness Guides. Whilst all guides will tell you relatively the same information, the Eyewitness series is somewhat different. How good are these travel guides? I got my first one free with a holiday I booked to Paris in January, and since then whenever I go away, this is the one I buy. So far I have 3 editions, and a 4th is on it's way in the post as we speak. So what's so good about these compared to, say, Rough guides, or Time Out guides? Here's my list : 1. They contain detailed street by street maps for the city which means you don't need to carry round a separate map too 2.
