Advantages: well set out guide
Disadvantages: none
Before leaving for the Algarve in Portugal I bought an Eye Witness Travel Guide, it is actually called Top Ten Algarve and I really did find it useful, in fact it came to be a very handy book and for the price of 6.99 well worth the money.
I did actually browse through it before we left to get a basic idea of where we were going but to be quite honest I didn't really study it until we arrived.
We hired a car and started to plan our seven days stay with the guide it was so easy to follow.
Just inside of the front cover a good sized map can be found with all the resorts and main roads etc very easy to follow in fact we normally buy a map of the area for about six euros when we go any where abroad but this one had all the information so it saved us money from the onset.
Firstly it lists the Algarve top ten Highlights so the best place to start planning the holiday.
1. Faro....the biggest city in Portugal
2. Tavira....An elegant town with a river running through it and 40 churches.
3. Silves ....A town in land with a castle.
4. Monchique...Small inland town with hot water natural spa
5. Loule....Colorful weekly market and handicrafts also on the edge of the Caldeirao mountain range.
6. Lagos.....A resort famous for its town walls and slave market site
7. Nature park Da Ria Formose.....A large lagoon, sand dunes and wildlife sanctuary.
8. Sagres......Dramatic views from the cliff tops.
9. Albufeira....Largest holiday resort with stunning beaches.
10. Vila Real and Castro Marim.....Frontier towns on the border of Spain
Well there was enough information just in that first bit to plan the week from a nice sandy beach to a bit of historic culture depending on how you feel.
It carries on with quite detailed information on each suggestion then lists the top ten
1. Beaches
2. Resort Towns
3. Inland Villages
4. Coastal villages
5. Museums
6. Golf courses
7. Walks in the Algarve
8. Castles and forts
9. Coastal and river cruises
10. Children's attractions
11. Shopping Malls and markets
12. Clubs and bars
It lists things to avoid, shopping tips, security and health advice ,and ways to save money if you are on a budget.
The photographs are very good and it is very well presented for an easy guide.
We took it with us every day in the car and drove all along the coast one day, inland the next and we followed the books recommendations it really helped us to have an enjoyable holiday and we got to see sights that we would probably of never of found without it.
I will buy another Eye Witness Travel Guide for our next holiday, it was a very useful paper back and as for the price well I think it was worth every penny.
Thank you for reading
Summary: Excellant value for money

Cat19 - 21.04.08 I used to like these guides, but there is not enough practical information if you are travelling failry independently or somewhere a little bit unusual. I like that they have lots of colour pictures. |
