Teacher's Dead - Benjamin Zephaniah

Crowned Review Propa Propaganda (917 words)

Rating:

Yesterday I finished reading Refugee Boy and Face, two books written by Benjamin Zephania. Then later I was flicking through a young persons guide to sex and drugs, and found many poems within the pages written by none other than Benjamin Zephania. I enjoyed the books very much and the poems caught my attention so I decided to find out more about this man.. Benjamin Zephania was born in Jamaica but came to live in the Lozells area in Birmingham with his family as a small child, along with his nine siblings. as teenager. Pike perhaps being the least inspiring poem ever! So I was shocked when I discovered that I could actually enjoy modern poetry. Benjamin Zephaniah's poetry is amazing and well worth reading. Zephaniah is a well known figure and has had work commissioned by diverse bodies such as the Museum of London. He also makes regular appearances on programmes such as Question time. He had been nominated for a position at Oxford University but the tabloids were outraged that a Rastafarian and former juvenile criminal should be allowed to work at Oxbridge! Many of his poems are written in a reggae style but don't let that put you off. The topics that ...
