Not for the feint hearted (Fair Stood the Winds for France - H.E. Bates)

Advantages: very good for impressing people at interviews Disadvantages: Not easy to get into, but keep going, it's worth it
This Book has many qualities- adventure,Romance and extreme bravery. It is about a crew of the RAF in the Second World War. It tells of a Wellington which crashes in occupied France. The captain injures his arm, and eventually loses it. It is a tear jerking journey to a French farm, where a family which risks almost everything the have , even there lives takes them in, and nurses them back to health. The captain falls in Love with a French Girl, Who rescues him and takes him on an epic journey back to England, This book is not for the Feint hearted, or for younger readers. There are sexual scenes, and grown up literature, with much description and many similes, and metaphors, An enjoyable read for the more passionate among us. HE Bates really excels himself in this superb novel.A very powerful Novel. Superb!!! Summary: |
