This is another story that we've picked up from our local library. It's written by Tony Mitton and illustrated by Guy Parker-Rees and tells the story of Farmer Joe. He owns a farm but unfortunately the animals aren't doing what they are suppose to; the hens don't lay eggs, the cows don't moo and the pigs don't eat. Farmer Joe has the novel idea of playing a little tune on his guitar to see if that'll encourage the animals to cheer up and start acting like normal farmyard animals. He starts playing and his friends decide to come on down to the farm and play their instruments too but will the animals change their mood?

The book is written in rhyme which makes it very easy to read a loud and you can almost sing a long and predict what words will be coming next. The words are integrated into the picture and if you need to shout then the words depict that emotion.

The illustrations are vibrant and creative. They are so bright and eye catching for the little ones and there is so much to look at and study because the page is packed with lots of details.

I really enjoyed this book and was glad that we picked it up. It's funny and shows how effective music can be in not only the lives of people but in the lives of animals too. It's easy for children to understand andthere is a verse that repeats throughout the story so the children can learn it and sing or read along too.

Noah really enjoyed this one too. He found the pictures entertaining and was yapping throughout most of the story asking questions and wanting to know certain things. When we finished the story he even asked if I would put some music on so we could have a dance.

I love the Mitton and Parker-Rees partnership. They compliment each other in every way. Mitton's writing is catchy and inspiring and Parker-Ree's pictures are outstanding which makes this book one for all children of all ages.

The soft back copy will cost you £5.99 from Waterstones.
