My boys have a lot of books that have a musical element to them; writing in rhyme seems to be a pre-requisite to much of the children's literary canon these days, but none more so than this book. Whereas lots of book have rhyme in them, I find it impossible not to sing this book when my boy wants it read to him.

The book tells the story about a farm that is struggling, mainly because all of the animals seem to be suffering from some sort of depression. Anyway, Farmer Joe (a dog) gets his guitar out and then that starts a great big musical extravaganza that gets all the animals on track.

As I've said a fair few times, having a kiddies book that revolves around animals is a clever old thing. Animals seem to be number one for many children, and this book is filled with all sorts. Not only that, but many of them are doing odd things (Pigs in the bath anyone) which leads to lots of laughter.

Lovely full page illustrations beaming with colour fill every nook and cranny. The pics are simple but effective, showing humorous pictures as they do.

As I have said, the best thing about the book is the musicality. Tight rhymes and equal syllables per line make it so musical it's impossible not to sing it. The funny thing is you have to work out your own tune which is actually quite a laugh!

All in all, a fun book that adults will enjoy as much as the kids!
