Advantages: Friendly tone, realistic advice

Disadvantages: none

We all hear. Told to think positively. Its easier said than done though aint it?

And then I read this book. Wow. It brings an whole new perspective to life and how to go about it. The tone is very good. It has that traditional self help book stylee but it is mixed up with personal stories by the author and she doesnt patronise you by thinking you should take what she says without questions. She argues her point and uses a very personal tone on many occasions. It has already been a best selling book that has sold millions of copies over the world and I'm not surprised

It is very inspiring and full of simple exercises that can be practically used. It dispells many myths that are carried around and gives a much more realistic expectation on what you can do. For instance I always had the impression that acting positively involved trying to think positive thoughts all the time. Very difficult. But no thanks to this book I have found that one way is simply to repeat positive statements to yourself. Out-talk your negative "chatterbox" as she puts it. That might or might not make much sense if you dont read the book but it is veeeeryy useful.

It is written by Susan Jeffers who has a doctorate in psychology and has written many other self help books. She has won many awards for her work in helping the poor and much of her advice that she tells in her book comes from her own experiences, and it has tranformed her own life.

The book dismisses the many myths that people have about life that keep them down, such as lack of time. The book is over 200 pages long but it is split up into very managable bits. It is very easy going to read. It doesnt confuse you with complicated jargon. Im sure everyone who reads this will find it connecting with them in some way, whether it be over their job or about a relationship.

I always browse the self help section in the bookshop - but I think I'd be a bit squeamish about actually buying anything. It's all a bit 'touchy feely' for me. Having said that, I once read a book called 'Get Rid of Him' (!!!) and it gave me the strength to do exactly that. I like to leave it on the bedside table these days to give whatsisname a fright. Ahh, I'm such a bitch...!
