==Synopsis of the book:== Nick Hornby is a very enthusiastic fan of Arsenal Football Club. This book deals with this interest from the very first game he ever watched in September 1968 and from their all the highlights and lowlights of being a fanatical fan. The book works on chronological order following both games the author attended but also the changes him his life from a young boy to a man in his 30's. Not only does it follow some of the significant games he watched but also England games he attended and the years he watched Cambridge United while he was away at University. It follows the changing relationships in Hornby's life as he tries to ... Read the complete review

Grimsby 6 Scunthorpe 0 I am a football fan, I have a natural passion for the sport and I know a lot of people in the real world don't understand why I love the game as much as I do, I mean as I type this review theres a massive scar on the back of my left leg where someone left their football boot in a challenge a little too long, but theres a simple way for you all to understand why I will be playing again next week - read this book! Grimsby 1 Luton 1 The best part of this book has to be the way any die-hard football fan can relate to different tales from the book, my personal one had to be when Nick Hornby started to talk about ... This is another book by Nick Hornby. As ever, it's aimed at men, and obsessive men at that. It's kind of autobiographical, as Nick maps out his life as he follows Arsenal football club. He puts all his failings and successes down to the team, thinking everytime the team fails, he fails, and everytime the club does well, so does he. It is the same kind of obsession as in High Fidelity, this time with football rather than music. It brings into question why thousands of people pay money to make themselves miserable watching their football teams, bringing themselves boredom and unhappiness for their money. I have to say, I don't think ... Read the complete review

I could have labelled this opinion 'How I lost my heart to a football fan on two different occasions' - but clearly I would be digressing! However, I'll let you into a couple of my little secrets - number 1: I generally hate football (sorry folks!) and number 2: I only read this book the first time because I was going out with a Spurs fan who blabbed on about the said sport all the time. Sad but true. On a positive note, the relationship lasted only a little longer than the book which is already a quick read - so, no harm done in the long term. Yes, I recovered. This said, the book provides an ideal platform to get into a football ... Read the complete review

'Fever Pitch' is a novel written by Nick Hornby which enjoyed critical success. I began reading the book after watching the film - which I have to say, I didn't particularly like. What struck me instantly was the differences between the movie version and the novel. Apart from a few key happenings, the two versions are structurally very different. This is quite understandable, as the book reads like the reading of a diary - although days and dates are replaced by football matches. The result is basically a history of every match Nick Hornby attended - and how each one affected his life. This would have been difficult to film, and as ... Read the complete review
