Advantages: Easy read, simple terminology, at points very well written

Disadvantages: Some sections appear irrelevant

Following the incredible hype about this book I decided to give it a go...
Personally I feel that the book was not a challenging read unlike some Authors E.L. James generally uses very simple terminology, perfect if you are looking for an easy read however, this style of writing is understandably not to everybodies taste.

Initially the book gives an introduction to the life of Anastasia Steele - as a student myself I found myself relating to some of the pressures and time constraints she faced. It has to be said however that after this section of the book I found the rest of the story extremely hard to relate to due to the unusual topics explored!

The book explores in detail the relationship between Christian Grey (millionaire businessman) and Anastasia as it develops from a seemingly normal girlfriend/boyfriend partnership to the rather less written about topic of submissive and master. The explicit scenes during the book were well written catching the full attention of any reader. James explores all of the senses to give readers a better understanding of the characters emotions and feelings both towards herself and Christian as she is introduced to a completely new way of life.

There are moments throughout the book where some of the actions and conversations appear to be slotted in to fill time before another sex scene and I did find myself detatching from the book solely because i did not feel that the conversation added anything of great depth to the purpose of the book, appearing simply to me as a reader as space fillers.

Overall I feel that the book is an easy read exploring some rarely talked about subjects - the book has moments of great writing drawing the reader in although it also has momentary lapses which do little to add to the book. I cannot say that i am in any great rush to read the next two books in the trilogy!

I hope this has been a helpful insight to the book for anybody considering reading it.

Summary: The book is an okay read, personally I wasn't hooked
