Well Hello Christian Grey! what a Guy!
At first I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy reading this book, or series of three books, mainly due to the hype. But after find the first two copies in my favorite second hand shop I thought I would give them a go, and promptly found myself going to buy the third after reading the first two very steamy novels.
I settled down to read the first novel not quite knowing what to expect as friends had told me their views and this was very mixed. Most liked it some did not and the few that did not were it has to be said quite christian and puritanical. So the rest of us must be truly sinful creatures indeed to read such filth.
Having said that I really truly enjoyed every sentence of it. Finding myself curious as to what would happen next and slightly hot around the collar in certain places in the reading. I laughed and cried found the whole process a joy to read mostly. Was enthralled with each character and wanted to smack some of them (Mrs Robinson) for one and that sleazy (Jack) for another. Two more despicable people I would never want to meet. But fell in love with Christian Grey and Anastasia Steel and so wanted them to work out their quirks and fetishes. He prowled after poor Anna who quite frankly never had a clue what she was getting herself in for and her innocence just added to the intensity of the whole thing.
The beginning of the book starts with the interview in Christian Greys office a story that was supposed to have been taken by Ana's friend but due to illness Ana promised she would do for her instead. She fluffs her way through the interview after falling headlong into his office making for a great start anyway, then she manages to peek his interest in herself as he thinks she would make a great submissive. OH BOY WAS HE WRONG.....OR WAS HE.
Ana at first fights off his advances, finally succumbing as most heroines do eventually but in her fight is where the main story lies. She has to work out whether she can cope with all Christian lays at her door and if he is really what she wants despite the obvious attraction she has for him. The story in the first book is about his courtship (if indeed that is the right word) of Ana and her trying to find her own boundaries. The book goes into some detail of their sexual exploits while she does this and his darkest secrets also come to a head about halfway in. I warn you now if your not into hot and steamy don't bother because there is a lot of graphic detail right through the length of this book and also through the two remaining books.
The first book Fifty shades of Grey Is basically the sweetener to a much involved love story not just for Christian and Ana but also for his Brother and Ana's friend.
There is a great amount of S& M written about and used in some cases by the two main characters and without giving very much away it had a great effect on them both. One way or the other.
I guess after reading this it did open my eyes a little wider as to what others get up to in the privacy of their own homes and made me for one wonder if a little of what they did wouldn't spice up the marital home a little. Hm mm.
Probably not in my hubbies case but a girl can but dream. Or read on.
Cannot wait for E.L. Jame's next novel I just hope it is as good if not better. Just don't be put off by a few critics.
Summary: A lovely love story mixed in with the seamy side of life
