Where before have you seen a hero with a vocal need to question authority, and who, through his imaginary ego expresses his inner feelings towards a girl he feels compelled to outwardly scorn? Is a philosophical foil and critic of materialism? Has a lean, toned, incredibly vicious sparring partner? A flamboyant guy who makes up his own damned rules?
The answer is in comic book form, although Marla might have been called Susie and Tyler might have been called Hobbes, while Project Mayhem stays pretty much the same. Our never-named narrator is a character we know and love, all grown up. And he's called Calvin. A kid needing a rascally friend who'll pounce on him.
