I was recommended this book by a friend, and I was not disappointed. I have been following Delingpole's career for a while now, and I found this book lived up to its initial promise. Full of brilliant set pieces, this book is a fantastic read. Much of the narrative shows wit, verve and precision. The only criticism that I have of the book is the fact that it the narrator doesn't seem to have altered over the course of the novel, or learnt at all from his mistakes. But then again it seems as though whilst this might deprive the reader of the satisfaction, this is an essential point when trying to understand the character and flaws of the ... Well one glance at the front cover gives you quite a big clue as to what this book is about! Joe is an ordinary guy with an extraordinary fear. On the surface, Joe seems to be just your average bloke. Joe, however, has one big obsession. It is Joe’s fear that he is going to become shark food, fated to perish at the jaws of a terrifying shark. This is despite the fact that Joe is a journalist based in the UK, whose closest brush with dangerous waters is swimming at his local swimming pool.
